New BBC Comedy Chat Show (Pilot)

Postby lazybones » Mon May 03, 2010 2:28pm

Adam Buxton is to star in a new BBC comedy chat show, based in a fictional small village.

He plays a dashing actor in the small community of Toxborough in the hybrid comedy Same Time Next Week, which is currently in development.

As well as the talk show, the programme will feature elements of sitcom reflecting life in the village including ‘video diaries, reviews, letters and songs’.

Character comedian Joanna Neary, best known for playing Judith in Ideal, also has a role as ‘irrepressible housewife’ Celia Jesson, while her ridiculously sensible husband Fred will be played by newcomer Al Kerr.

A pilot edition of the show will be recorded in London later this month, with the studio audience encouraged to ‘dress up in your finest provincial clothing’.

The show is being made by Feelgood Fiction, whose credits include Suburban Shootout.

See our free tickets page if you want to be be in the studio audience.

That says it all really. Fingers crossed that this won't be panned like The Persuationists. It seems like he'll have his own additions like songs and such so sounds good.

Cool! I'm a little bit nervous that the roles will be Persuassionist style charactures but I'm not going to judge too much at this stage!

This also solves a mystery from a tweet I noticed ages ago last year from Leila Johnston.

Right here we go,

The filming took place at BBC television centre, White City in a tiny studio far into the echelons of the building, at 7pm we walked in to a perfect recreation of a village hall, complete with noticeboards, a stage, banners, you know the type. I took my seat on the front row

After a big delay (as is usual at these kinds of things) and after the warm up we were introduced to Jo Neary playing irrepressible housewife Celia Jesson, Al Kerr as her sensible husband Fred and finally Adam playing the dashing actor Gerard Jeremy
.
All looked great, Adam's entrance was particularly hilarious. The set was designed so the actors came out of a kitchen door stage right so Adam used this to great comedy effect.

Overall the show was good, the format is sitcom / chat show which hasn't been done by the BBC since the Kumar's at No 42 which shows that it isn't a particularly successful format so I wish them luck for a commissioning!

The two secret celebrity guests were John Sergeant and Joanna Pagefrom Gavin and Stacey, they were both very entertaining, especially Sergeant who towards the end was getting quite frustrated with the crew to big laughs.

Adam stole the show with his portrayal of a seedy actor, he improvised loads and stole the show (and Im not being biased). Jo Neary was also great but quite evidently nervous throughout.

After the show I thought it might be nice to email Jo through her website and didn't expect a reply and then lo and behold this morning I got this:

Same time next week
