This guy began to generate this rumour a couple of weeks ago by teasing but not telling. He may or may not have the ear of the studio but over the last four or five days, his tweet spread like wildfire over the net. To his credit he made it clear that Joe is one of several names he's heard of but doesn't mention the others.

I think we can assume that for every such rumour that gets out, there are a couple more offers or talks we don't hear of.

I can't get emotional in either direction until I hear something of more substance. The net's a funny place :D

Since industry paper, Variety are now carrying this piece, I thought I'd link to the news that Paramount are still trying to persuade Joe do direct Trek3. He passed on the earlier offer but he's in LA working on Ant-Man with Edgar Wright so he's clearly been vulnerable to renewed courtship :D

Watch and wait.

A couple of new writers were brought on board and according to all the blogs last night, Joe is no longer attached as a possible director. I don't have time to find a totally water-tight resource for this news but I believe it may have come from Variety.
