Joe was on our program last night talking about 'Attack The Block', filmmaking, and not wanting to make a movie about wife-beating (hilarious in context). Our show is called George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. Here's Joe talking with George:

The interview is an entertaining and fascinating look at how Joe got his film made, his love of classic sci-fi like Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead' and Carpenter's 'The Thing,' the awesome strangeness of working with his hero Steven Spielberg, and the kind of "British film" he didn't want to make (i.e. a period piece, a film about royalty, or a film about wife-beating). There are some interesting insights into the process of writing the movie - including his response to Blake Snyder's infamous 'Save The Cat' screenwriting book - and the ways he believes science fiction can be used.

It's great for people who enjoyed 'Attack The Block,' as well as aspiring filmmakers and fans of genre pictures. The YouTube version of the clip is right here:

George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight is Canada's only national late night talk show. It airs on CBC Television weeknights at 11:05 pm.

Do we have any Italian members here? We must have. Joe will be in Rome next week to promote the theatrical release of Attack The Block. He'll be doing a video interview for ComingSoonIT.com and giving a masterclass for the lucky few. I'm sure there will lots of other press etc.

It's being distributed by the Italian film giant, Filmauro. They've dubbed the film into Italian in an effort to get a bigger audience but they've also gone to the trouble of dubbing some of the behind-the-scenes features. They take promotion seriously!

Oh I'm in Turin at the moment and I was surprised to see giant posters for ATB outside the cinema a few days ago. I'd love to see how they translate all the youth slang into Italian so may have to make a post exam trip soon!
I'm also sure it was playing at Torino film festival in November last year, did it not win an award?

It did! It was in Bologna too. Filmauro have really put some effort into the marketing. They've dubbed the film but also dubbed three trailers plus our or five clips and a behind the scenes featurette for online.
