If you cast your mind back seven months to the last time I updated this fansite (sorry about that btw!), you might recall my blog post offering free audience tickets for this sitcom. The show was previously known as ‘The Scum Also Rises’ and was filmed at London Teddington Studios over a six week period in June and July. Here’s some more info on the show lifted from the BBC minisite for The Persuasionists:

Adam Buxton is set to star in a new TV sitcom ‘The Scum Also Rises‘ alongside Iain Lee and Daisy Haggard. Six episodes are being recorded in front of a live audience at Teddington Studios – and you can grab yourself free tickets to the filming, courtesy of sro audiences. The first show is being filmed this Thursday (4th June).
Here’s how the programme is described:
THE SCUM ALSO RISES
A sitcom about the flaky, shaky, fakey “creatives” who work in the advertising industry. Underworked and overpaid, they’re the people who spend all day trying to persuade you to buy things you don’t want with money you don’t have. They’re scum.
There’s Billy, who’s smart and funny and STILL works in advertising; uncontrollable urge-bag Keaton; neurotic, spoiled Emma; boss Clive, the most Australian man on the planet; and hopeless, witless, feckless Greg – who wants to be as ambitious and amoral as his friends, but can’t seem to manage even that.
Come and see the show that reaches the parts other comedies cannot reach…. Because you’re worth it.
Starring Adam Buxton (Adam and Joe), Iain Lee (The 11 O’Clock Show) & Daisy Haggard (Man Stroke Woman), The Scum Also Rises will be taping at Teddington Studios during June & July.

Interestingly it seems the pilot for this show was broadcast on BBC3 a couple of years ago (28th May 2007) with Adam playing Greg.
The cast list for the 2007 pilot was:
Mr Broom – Chris Barrie
Keaton – Kevin Bishop
Greg – Adam Buxton
Billy – Tom Price
Producer – Iain Morris
Author – Jonathan Thake
Read a less-than-complimentary review of the pilot on tvscoop.tv. There’s also a discussion of the show on sitcom.co.uk.

They didn’t come in the top 3 for the Listener Participation Award.. so as lazybones points out in our forum Text The Nation clearly isn’t the ‘Nations Favourite Feature’ :)

Congratulations to Adam and Joe !!

Adam and Joe never exclude, but rather invite the listener to join them in a parallel universe. Their show combines banter, creativity, honesty, self-deprecation and the comedy song.

An ambitious and innovative entry, delivered at a particularly challenging time at the BBC for competitions. The entry made use of a digital network in new ways and resulted in high quality entries from listeners. A strong and successful interactive dimension and overall offer, very much in tune with the sound and appeal of the programme and the network.

Adam and Joe are self confessed big kids. They have unashamedly made a living out of not wanting to grow and get proper jobs. As such they represent a nation of 30-somethings who believed ‘Back to the Future’ when it promised hover boards, believed we would be flying our cars around by now and who still think of themselves as part of a Jedi Generation! Balancing this ongoing disappointment with the world around them, whilst at the same time viewing their surroundings with the amazement of a child seeing fireworks for the first time, is what Adam and Joe are all about. The topics are vast, the discussion is fast paced and often equally as dumb as it is genius. They are a mass of contradictions and about turns, which is what keeps the listener engaged and more importantly guessing what will happen next.

Here are some photos (pinched off the BBC 6Music website) that show Adam and Joe broadcasting live from the Camden Crawl, alongside their lucky 20 Elite Black Squadron members (who won tickets to the recording of the show last week!). All 20 received an exclusive and official Adam and Joe Stephen!/Just Coming t-shirt (only 50 made apparently) and mug
