Adam and Joe on XFM Radio (The Almost Complete List)

===

NB: If you are looking for more than just the XFM shows (eg. 6Music shows, Coke Music podcasts), then please check out our other thread:
The Complete Adam & Joe Radio Show Reference List

===

This is a thread created by A&J fan About Last Friday back on 28th Dec 2011:

Here is my attempt at speculating how many Adam & Joe XFM broadcasts were made from 2003 - 2006. I know the excellent reference list covers what exists as downloads, but I feel we're definitely missing a lot of XFM material from 2003 and 2004. If anyone can help with filling these gaps, I feel it's important to sign post exactly what we're missing, and what we have has as mp3s (including mirrors to said files).

So, if you're casually reading this and can help out with filling the gaps in this list, please do. If you know about or have links to broadcast dates for the uncertain dates listed here, it'd be excellent to rid this guide of any inaccuracies. And even better, if you have some old DAB rips, have a look at them and see if they're missing shows from our virtual archive of material. Uploading these missing shows would be a massive help!

Admins and Mods: If you feel like this is treading on the toes of the reference list in any way, feel free to lock or delete this topic. And if you decide it's fine, feel free to add these new mirrors to the reference list download links.

2003 / Ricky Gervais Fill-In Run

These are Adam & Joe's first shows on XFM, made in the gap between Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington's show, while Gervais and Merchant shot The Office Christmas Special in late 2003.

There are large gaps in mp3 versions of these shows (3 of a possible 10 existing), so piecing together what was and wasn't broadcast is more difficult than later series.

  • Show 01: 2003.08.23 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 02: 2003.08.30 [Edited Show]*
  • Show 03: 2003.09.06 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 04: 2003.09.13 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 05: 2003.09.20 [Edited Show]
  • Show 06: 2003.09.27 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 07: 2003.10.04 [Edited Show] << dead 4shared link
  • Show 08: 2003.10.11 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 09: 2003.10.18 [No mp3 exists]
  • Show 10: 2003.10.25 [No mp3 exists]

* It's important to note that Adam states that he's been beaten three times in a row at "Ditties in the Dock" on this "second" show. This either calls into question the accuracy of the dating of this broadcast (more likely), that Adam got the number of defeats wrong (also likely), or suggests they played two rounds of "Ditties in the Dock" during their first show (less likely).

2004 / First Run

Now, here's where things get a bit hazy. The earliest downloadable show in mp3 from 2004 is dated March 27th 2004. However, on his website, Adam notes that "after Ricky and Steve permanently left XFM" in late January 2004, they took over their slot full-time.

So, as per the list below, it appears that less half of their output from the first 2004 run exists in mp3 format. I have added question marks to these entries, as it is hard to know when they did and didn't broadcast. It's easy to write off the summer (July - September?) as a "break", taking into account their radio work since their first "full" year at XFM, but when did the break begin and end? For now, the run is listed until their last "definite" show (June 19th 2004), but the run may have continued for a few more shows after this.

Show 01?: 2004.01.24 [No mp3 exists]
Show 02?: 2004.01.31 [No mp3 exists]
Show 03?: 2004.02.07 [No mp3 exists]

Show 21?: 2004.06.12 [Edited Show]* << dead 4shared link
Show 22?: 2004.06.19 [No mp3 exists]

* Worth noting that Adam says "see you next week" at the end of this show, signalling that they were probably back on the 19th.

2004 / Second Run

At first, I felt it was quite ambiguous as to when the boys returned to XFM, but Adam definitely notes that they've been away a while on the 2nd October 2004 episode, suggesting that it is their first show back. More good news is that the gaps become less and less frequent starting with this autumn run in 2004.

2005 / First Run

After taking a break on New Years Day, Adam & Joe returned for a third run at XFM, and their first run during 2005. More gaps are plugged, and the show enters its "golden era", with some of Adam and Joe's funniest material at XFM beginning to take shape.

2005 / Second Run

The second run of 2005. The first run in which all the episodes are accounted for in some form or another. I think at this point, cappers from certain private Bittorrent trackers were making a point to capture and release the show on a regular weekly basis.

2006 / Second Run

The second run of 2006, and the final Adam & Joe Show run on XFM. Despite promising to return "in the New Year", the guys returned for a single Christmas special on the 30th of December that year, and then hung up their XFM-brand hats to move into greener pastures outside a rather big British castle.

Wow! Nice work.

Maybe I should finally get stuck into listening to the old XFM shows - I've only heard the podcasts and maybe a couple of shows - should I be admitting to that?

Thanks, everyone! Glad you guys like what I've done. As I say in the OP, feel free to bung any of these links into the Full Reference Guide. I registered a 4shared account, so the main links should not go down, as long as I visit the account once a month, and I added Multiupload links as some extras mirrors if some people have trouble with 4shared or whatever.

blurry101: I recommend that you do. I think they're less laugh-out-loud funny than the 6 Music stuff, but are more subtle and akin to the sort of humour found on their Channel 4 show. That and the competition / listener interaction stuff is top notch. I wish the BBC would dry up and let people run competitions again, as I think they're sorely missing from Adam and Joe's current show. Crap Commentary Corner has to have a backlog going back almost 5 years now!

The shows from 2005 onwards don't seem to actually be links.

.....torpedoed
The ones in black are placeholders, ready for when someone has the time to upload them. They change colour when they have a hotlink. It's a very time consuming task. We've been concentrating on getting the 6Music full shows up and I have yet to bring the links for those shows over to the other thread. I don't believe anyone has full XFM shows though, so I should probably take those placeholders away.

I think I should probably clairfy this. The ones with "Full Shows" tagged are for their because I have my own personal rips, of which I do have full shows of, songs and all. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Edited: Fixed this whole thing.

Really sorry to have made more work for you, ALF. I didn't think anyone had full shows more than those odd ones found a couple of years ago.

I am slowly getting the edited shows up now. I've started from the end, working backwards in the hope that perhaps About Last Friday had the same idea and is uploading more from the front of the list ;)

I've now linked all the 6Music shows on the other thread and will eventually get the edited versions up too. I'll put the XFM file links over there first and then come over here to update with the same.
