Is that it? That's what it sounded like at the end of yesterday's podcast...

That's it for this series after Glasto, I would hope they return after the summer. It didn't sound like it will be their last ever shows, but Joe did say in a recent interview that the show "couldn't go on forever".

I do think they want to keep going as long as people will have them. I don't think the show could ever come back for 40-odd weeks of the year like it used to, but a couple of 6-10 week runs per year are certainly workable. The time apart gives them extra things to talk about without it ever going stale. If Joe hadn't gone to make ATB and given them this break, it's possible the show might have ended by now anyway. Hopefully these long breaks mean we still get something for a while longer yet

Well, I hope the decisions are coming from their side... If they don't get Collins and Herring back, I'd think the slot listenership might suffer some...

I think Fish Heads is the voice of reason.

The show is riding at #2 in the iPlayer again this week which is the usual for a Sunday. That's all of the radio iPlayer, not just 6Music. The popularity of the show is not in question from any direction. I fear it's all down to Joe.

Whilst Adam is building such an amazing success from his standup/BUG format the radio show gratifies him on several levels and I think he'd be happy to find a way of making it work longer term if Joe was amenable. I'm sure Joe is very uncertain about the immediate future. He needs to ride the crest of the interest in Attack the Block while it's there because these things are all too ephemeral. It starts to open in different markets over the summer and it's success will bring opportunities that will take careful consideration.

Adam will want to spend some time away with the family in France over summer and he's doing some dates in Edinburgh too. Once Joe has had the chance for a proper holiday away from all excitement of the hoopla, he may feel he can put a shape into his routine that allows for the show but it must seem like a mixed pleasure at the moment.

If wishes were dishes* I'd put all my strawberries into the bowl of a shorter run, taking us up to a Christmas shack show. In reality, we might just get the Christmas show.

As for Collins & Herring, I'm sure Andrew is longing to get back but it's hard to tell with Richard. He has clearly exhausted himself with all the projects he has had running concurrently but it's hard to tell through his jolly piss-taking, how much he would genuinely relish getting back in the studio again. I'm sure the slot would be theirs if they wanted it. August will be a problem for them too, because of Edinburgh. 6Music must have been having some heavy meetings lately. They were royally spoiled by the compliance of Collins and Herring last year.

Since Adam used to pre-record his Mixtape shows, if we can only impress upon him what an outstandingly amazing interviewer he is, we could be sated with the return of a run but I fear that is not quite the right mood for a Saturday morning. That said, there are lots of up and coming comedy idiots who would make a good fist of it so I'm sure it'll work out OK for 6Music.....just a little hard on us ;)

* I don't even know why I wrote that.

i'd say joe probably earns considerably more than adam. difference is that most of joe's work is behind the scenes. even if attack the block didn't work out, he's got a credit as writer of the tintin film. he's hardly going to be short of work.

Wasn't sure where to put this but Radio2 have made 60 minutes worth of Best Bits that will air on Saturday night for two weeks. If it has music in it as well, there'll be precious little waffle but those are the straws we much clutch.

Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish have been delighting 6 Music listeners since 2007, with a highly interactive Saturday morning show which picked up the Sony Radio Award for Best Comedy last year.
Friends since school, in 1995 their submissions to Channel 4's Takeover TV led to a self-titled entertainment show which featured satires of contemporary pop culture (including Toy Trainspotting and American Beautoy).
The talented pair have since worked on many other shows, both individually and together. Adam regularly tours with his BUG stage show, whilst continuing to write and act on television and in feature films including Stardust. Joe, meanwhile, has adapted Ant Man for the big screen, worked with Steven Spielberg on the script for The Adventures of Tintin, and made his directorial debut earlier this year with Attack the Block.
Over the next two weeks, 6 on 2 will showcase some of the very best bits from "Dr Buckles" and "Dr Sexy". If you're not already a fan, tune in to find out why features like Text the Nation, Song Wars and Made Up Jokes (not to mention prolific off-air "Stephen!" activity) have captured the hearts and minds of the 6 Music audience.
