Well, this is embarrassing. There have been casting calls, casting announcements and other bits of whiffle but I can't see anything on the forum.

Joe's next feature film will be released next year and has just started production. Read more at Empire

Fox released this statement for the press:
http://www.enhancedonlinenews.com/news/ ... 5006330/en
Based on an original script by writer/director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING begins principal photography in London on September 25, 2017.

THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING tells the story of Alex, a twelve-year-old British schoolboy whose everyday problems are dwarfed by his discovery of the mythical sword Excalibur.

Now, with the most powerful sword in history in the hands of the most powerless schoolboy in Britain, an epic adventure begins as Alex and his friends must thwart a medieval villain named Morgana, who is hell-bent on destroying the world.

Louis Serkis (Alice Through the Looking Glass) stars as Alex. Newcomer Dean Chaumoo plays his best friend Bedders and Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) and Rhianna Doris (Secret Life of Boys) play Lance and Kaye, who complete Alex’s band of would-be warriors.

Angus Imrie (Kingdom) plays a young incarnation of the wizard Merlin, with Sir Patrick Stewart as the senior version. Rebecca Ferguson plays the evil Morgana.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce the film alongside Nira Park of Big Talk Pictures. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the picture and Michael Ireland will oversee the project for the studio.

Ms Ferguson gives a nice shout out to Joe here

She’s finished filming THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING, a fantasy with Patrick Stewart as Merlin where she relished playing the evil medieval villain Morgana. ‘Now I’m going to do Stephen King’s DOCTOR SLEEP, a kind of continuation of THE SHINING and play Rose the Hat,’ Ferguson said enthusiastically. ‘She’s the villain, she enjoys torturing little children.’

How, I asked her, does she decide? Is there much agony before saying Yes? ‘Everything filters thru agents and we have long discussions and then it travels to me,” she explained. ‘This one came during the shooting of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE thru Simon Pegg who is good friends. He said, ‘They’re interested in you, should I hook you up?’ I went to meeting with Joe [Cornish, the KID writer-director whose credits include the great British alien thriller ATTACK THE BLOCK that introduced John Boyega and THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN] and his love and excitement made me fall in love with the project. I wanted to do it before I read the script. His vision of this classless society and the youth being able to conquer whatever is ahead of us were irresistible.’

Plenty has been happening with Joe's film release, finally. There's a proper website and social media here plus a trailer!

http://www.adamandjoe.com/2018/10/18/tr ... s-new-film

At the start of the trailer, blonde-haired bully Lance (Tom Taylor) and his accomplice Kaye (Rhianna Dorris) are giving Bedders the old shake-down – but later on they join him and Alex on their quest. “They’re the Bonnie and Clyde of the playground,” Cornish jokes. “They go around fleecing younger kids, rinsing them, dangling them upside down and emptying the contents of their pockets. They’re older kids who pick on younger kids, they’re kind of insecure but they’re also very cool and confident. Lance, Kaye and Bedders are all analogues for the Arthurian characters of Sir Lancelot, Sir Kay, and Sir Bedivere.”

Trailers and clips have been appearing over the last few weeks as the Oz and US release dates come closer.

There are some reviews out there too. In the latest issue of Empire magazine, Chris Hewitt does an extensive interview piece with Joe but you'll have to buy a copy to read that :)

I've seen this and it pains me to say I only sort of liked it. Unfortunately it's something of a mixed bag, the action sequences are mostly strong and there's a few funny bits, but a lot of the dialogue is on the nose and the themes dealt with in a surprisingly blunt manner. I know it's a film meant for kids but that's no reason to spoon feed them in such a way, plenty of other similar films don't, and I doubt they'll enjoy being patronised unless really young. It's a shame as with a smarter script it could have been a great deal of fun, but as it is it's undoubtedly a flawed work.
